The quality of water in rivers, lakes and streams is Horizons Regional Council’s top priority. A major part of all scientific and policy work is dedicated to maintaining and enhancing water quality.

We are making sure that this natural resource is preserved and that industrial, municipal and agricultural practices are focused on making water quality matter.

This new online resource gives access to a huge amount of scientific data on water quality. Information from 62 State of the Environment monitoring, every month we test and monitor the quality of water at 36 sites where major resource consent holders discharge either sewage or industrial waste into waterways. The 36 sites are monitored upstream and downstream against a variety of standards.
