Woolly Nightshade (Solanum mauritianum) is present in Wanganui City and is spreading.

Here at Horizons we are running an urban based weed programme as we want to remove this pest from Wanganui City.

Woolly Nightshade is easily recognisable by its large soft light green leaves, small purple flowers and green/yellow berries. It can grow into a tree 8m tall and its parts are poisonous and smell like kerosene. The tiny hairs on its leaves can also cause asthma like symptoms including coughing and throat irritation.
