Conservation Week 2012

Conservation Week 2012 is almost upon us and this year Horizons will be supporting the Department of Conservation (DoC) with a number of activities and events. Conservation Week is run by DoC each year to raise awareness of the benefits of conservation and to encourage people to get involved with conserving our environment.

All sorts of activities are planned across our Region and we encourage you to get involved!

These include:

Horizons Colouring in Competition - enter our competition and you could win some great prizes including plants to the value of $100 for your school!

Whio family fun day - something for the whole family including face painting, the flood simulation activity in the 'Te Awa' exhibition, craft activities and a talk from Peter Russell of the Blue Duck Recovery Group.

Community Planting Day on the Dunes - An opportunity to contribute to the work currently being carried out at the Castlecliff Sand Dunes.

Oroua Field Trip - Explore part of the Ruahine Forest Park, walk the start of the Oroua Blue Duck Protection Project trap line and learn about the great work our community is leading to protect whio living on the Oroua River.

McDonald's Tu Kakariki Tree Planting - Five Levin schools will continue the Tu Kakariki tree planting project at Kowhai Park on September 19.
