Natural hazards

Horizons' region is vulnerable to many natural hazards and has experienced floods, lahars and land slips. Because natural hazards are outside human control, we have put in place plans to minimise their effects and impacts.

Keeping our communities safe is a large part of our work, and we work closely with the territorial authorities in our Region to ensure that land development does not increase hazard risks or put people or property at risk.

The Proposed One Plan

Our One Plan is a consolidated Regional Resources Plan which combines all of our previous plans into one.

In our Proposed One Plan we have developed clear guidelines for residential and urban development while considering climate change, we also provide the public and local authorities with information about hazards and flooding in particular.

Chapter 10 of our Proposed One Plan explains these guidelines in greater detail.
