Region's river levels still on watch

Whanganui River levels have slowly dropped overnight and are predicted to continue to do so today. The next high tide is at 4.20pm today, however we are not expecting any issues.

In the Manawatū, there has been heavy rain in the Tararua Ranges overnight.

The Manawatū River peaked at 4.3 metres at Teachers’ College at 2am this morning.

Horizons Regional Council staff remain on standby should the need to open the Moutoa floodgates arise later today.

Members of the public are asked to stay away from rivers while they are in flood and to take care while driving.

Information on road conditions can be found on AA’s website,

Up-to-date information on river heights and rainfall is available via Horizons 24 hour toll-free Waterline 0508 4 FLOOD or via our website
