Why is the Feilding Around Town / Feilding to Palmerston North bus service is being reviewed?

High quality bus services don’t just benefit bus users. They reduce traffic on the road and bring about positive health and environmental benefits. With good bus services in place, people may find they don’t need their cars as much – potentially saving themselves and the household money!

The bus network should not only serve us well today but be sustainable and grow with our needs.

The current service travelling around Feilding and between Feilding and Palmerston North was last updated in 2016 following a service review and the start of a new contract (which lasts until 2025). A lot can change in a short time so we are undertaking a mid-term review of the service to see whether it works for the community and if any improvements can be made.

What are the options?

There are three options proposed for providing a service around Feilding township, separate to the commuter function. All three options are proposed to complete one-way loops, starting and ending at Manchester Square. A commuter service will run separately to the around town options for Feilding but will follow a very similar route and timetable to the current service.

We want to hear what you think! You can provide feedback from 2 – 30 March 2020. 

All feedback will be considered by the Advisory Group and reported to Horizons’ for a final decision on what changes are going to be made to the Feilding Bus Service. 

It is important to note that any changes won’t happen overnight. Once approved by the Passenger Transport Committee the changes have to be endorsed by Horizons Regional Council and funding sought from the NZTA. Following that time will be needed to get any new infrastructure and information such as timetables in place before any new services roll out.
