Manawatū-Whanganui Regional Council has received a consent application from the Department of Corrections to discharge storm water and associated contaminants, following treatment, from the premises of the Whanganui Prison, Pauri Road, Kaitoke to water, being a channel connecting Pauri and Wiritoa Lakes.

Resource consent sought from Manawatū-Whanganui Regional Council comprised of the following activities:

Discharge to Water

To continue to discharge storm water and associated contaminants, following treatment, from the premises of the Whanganui Prison, Pauri Road, Kaitoke to water, being a channel connecting Pauri and Wiritoa Lakes. A consent term expiring on 1 July 2044 is sought. 

This application is seeking to replace the Department’s current Discharge Permit 100362 which expired on 15 December 2013. An application was lodged by the Department within 6 months of that consent expiring, allowing the discharge to continue under Section 124 of the Resource Management Act (1991).
