Manchester Street School celebrates ‘Green-Gold’ achievement

Horizons Regional Council are pleased to announce Manchester Street School’s success in reaching ‘Green-Gold’ status with the Enviroschools programme this last September.

Manchester Street School is holding a celebration event in recognition of this achievement on Friday 29 November.

Horizons environmental educator and Enviroschools regional coordinator Sarah Williams says that each Enviroschool undertakes a ‘holistic reflection’ at least every three years which involves students, staff and community members.

“It is an inclusive and effective process that helps build internal momentum within the school or centre and celebrates successes with their community,” says Mrs Williams.

“Part of the process is that schools and centres decide if they are a Bronze, Silver or Green-Gold Enviroschool. This status reflects their breadth and depth of the Enviroschools sustainability practices.”

Manchester Street School principal Glen Richardson is a proud supporter of the Enviroschools programme.

“We are delighted to receive the Green-Gold award. This success is the result of the commitment shown by our students, staff and community over many years,” says Mr Richardson

“Manchester Street School’s celebration event is also our whole school enviro-action day, which we hold each term.”

Funding partners of the programme from Manawatū District Council have been invited to attend, as well as local media.

Horizons Regional Councillor Emma Clarke will be presenting the certificate to Manchester Street School.
