Progressive election results for Horizons Regional Council announced
Local body voting closed at 12 noon today and progressive results are now available on Horizons Regional Council’s website, www.horizons.govt.nz.
Horizons electoral officer Craig Grant says that these results are only progressive, providing a snapshot of the results so far.
“Approximately 95 per cent of votes have now been counted,” says Mr Grant.
“The preliminary results may differ as more votes come in over the weekend. Results will continue to be posted on the Elections page of our website throughout the week until the special votes have been accounted for and a final declaration of results is posted between 13-15 October.
“Local body elections are held every three years and Horizons Regional Council comprises of eight constituencies, represented by 14 councillors including one from Raki (northern constituency) Māori, one from Tonga (southern constituency) Māori, two from Whanganui, two from Manawatū-Rangitīkei, two from Horowhenua, four from Palmerston North, one from Tararua, and one from Ruapehu.
“For the first time, this election we have two Māori constituencies, each with one seat. The Raki Māori seat is held uncontested by Turuhia (Jim) Edmonds. The Tonga Māori seat is contested by two candidates.
“Allan Benbow was also elected unopposed for the Tararua constituency.”
