Roadworks in Palmerston North cause multiple bus route diversions

Horizons Regional Council is thanking bus passengers for their patience as diversions are put in place for bus routes due to roadworks across Palmerston North, which have caused delays.

Diversions are already in place for Massey/IPU, Summerhill, Feilding to Palmerston North Girls’ High School, and Rugby/Awapuni services, due road closures to the north bound, western road on The Square, between the Coffee Club and the Plaza.

These existing diversions were due to finish Sunday 31 March but have now been extended to Thursday 4 April, due to project delays.

Transport manager Phil Hindrup is thanking passengers for their understanding. “Unfortunately, there are a lot of road works happening in the city at the moment, and we appreciate that it can be quite disruptive for our customers and services.”

“From 1 April, Palmerston North City Council have advised us that Tremaine Avenue will be closed for northbound traffic between Botanical Road and Matthews Ave for approximately two weeks.

“This will affect our Route 6 Milson service, which will divert from Gilliespies Line, down Botanical Road, along Liverpool Street into Montrose and Manchester Streets, turning right onto Aberdeen Avenue and then onto Wood Street to connect back to the normal route towards Main Street Terminal,” explains Mr Hindrup.

Several bus stops along Tremaine Avenue and Wood Street have been closed, so please continue to check for updates online. The Route 5 Cloverlea service will be unaffected by the diversion, however it is likely to experience some delays.

“We would like to apologise in advance to anyone who is inconvenienced by these diversions.”
