Waitārere, Foxton, Waikawa and Himatangi beaches return suitable for swimming results in time for Christmas Day

Horizons swim spot monitoring results returned today show that Enteroccoci levels for Waitārere Beach are within the green, or suitable for swimming, category LAWA.

Waitārere Beach, which had consistently shown high levels of Enterococci recently and had resulted in a no swimming status for the Horowhenua site, has today returned results that show Enterococci levels are within the green – ‘surveillance’ category on www.lawa.org.nz This means the beach is again suitable for swimming and collecting kai. Waikawa, Himatangi and Foxton beaches have also all returned a ‘green’ result on their second sample following an earlier ‘red’ result this week.

Even if LAWA is showing a swim spot is suitable for swimming, we encourage members of the public to check the water when. This means taking a look to see the water is clean and clear, meaning that you can see into the water. If the water smells odd or is a strange colour it should be avoided.
