Horizons Regional Council manages bus services in Palmerston North, and plays a role in strategic transport planning for the Manawatū-Whanganui Region.

We know our current bus routes can be confusing, services are infrequent, and journey times are long and inconsistent. As a result, we’re reviewing Palmy and Ashhurst’s networks, and we're keen to hear your thoughts. Whether you’re a current bus user or not, we’d like to know your preferences on two proposed options for Palmy.

Option 1 includes bus routes closer to home, and a 30 minute frequency throughout the day from 6.30am until 8pm, Sunday-Wednesday, and 6.30am until 9pm Thursday-Saturdays. The other option has bus routes slightly further from home, however, it includes services every 15 minutes during peak hours Monday to Friday, and every 30 minutes the rest of the time. Buses would run from 6.30am until 8pm, Sunday-Wednesday, and 6.30am until 9pm Thursday-Saturday. Both options will cost approximately the same to implement.

We have also proposed improvements for Ashhurst that would increase frequency from Monday to Saturday, providing passengers with a better connection to Palmy.

Your feedback will help us finalise the design of Palmy’s future bus network. We’ll share a summary of this feedback and our decision with you later this year, and plan to get the new network rolling in 2023.

Visit betterbuses.horizons.govt.nz to find out more, and share your thoughts with us by 5pm on Friday 17 September 2021 to help us create a better bus network for Palmy.
