New Zealanders are never far from the coast. Horizons’ region extends 12 nautical miles out to sea.
Our role is to manage the values associated with the coast such as natural character, public access and Maori cultural values, and the range of activities that occur in the Coastal Marine Area (such as structures, disturbances to the seabed and discharges of contaminants).
Our One Plan is a consolidated Regional Resources Plan which combines all of our previous plans into one.
The values of our Coastal Marine Area are covered in our Proposed One Plan, and whereas there is currently little pressure for aquamarine development, there are options to address these issues if they arise in the future.
Chapter 9 in our Proposed One Plan has more information on our rules, policies and objectives relating to our coastal areas.
