Horizons' Regional Freshwater Community Grant is a new contestable fund for community projects throughout the Horizons Region which encourage engagement with or education around freshwater. 

Applications for 2023 are open from Monday 15 May to Friday 30 June at 5pm.

Our Vision

Horizons is committed to understanding and embracing our communities shared knowledge and experiences of freshwater, including mātauranga Māori (Māori knowledge), to enable us to look after our freshwater better. 

Our vision for this grant is to enable community groups with projects which encourage education around, engagement with, and innovation in freshwater, to access funding to further their projects. 


Interested in applying?

Applications are welcome from non profit organisations (or individuals partnering with them) that have community led projects that align with Horizons freshwater interests, including initiatives that:
  • Encourage engagement with freshwater in their communities.
  • Create education opportunities around the importance of freshwater.
  • Will be completed (project work and grant accountability requirements) within 12 months*
  • Are one-off projects, however multi-year project grants will be considered.
  • Incorporate mātauranga Māori knowledge.
