Tō kaunihera Your Council
About us
We are passionate about making the Horizons Region a better place for everyone, both now and into the future. We work with partners and other agencies to protect the health of the environment across the region to ensure a sustainable and prosperous future for all of us.
Councillors
Your Horizons councillors represent the region’s eight constituencies – Horowhenua, Tararua, Palmerston North, Manawatū-Rangitīkei, Whanganui, Ruapehu, Raki Māori, and Tonga Māori. Your councillors were elected in the 2025 local government elections.
Elections
Elections are held every three years at the same time as elections for city and district councils. The last local election was held on 11 October 2025 by postal vote using the First Past the Post system.
Working together with tangata whenua
Our region is home to more than 30 iwi and 100 hapū. Strong relationships between Horizons Regional Council and tangata whenua aren't just good practice, they're essential to good environmental decision-making in a region where the connections between people and place run deep.
