Flood resilience and land drainage are paramount to our role in keeping communities safe in our region and form a major part of our business. Managing rivers through engineering works allows us to help prevent floods and provide adequate land drainage where necessary.

As the regional council, we're responsible for managing rivers throughout the region to help prevent flooding and erosion. We do this through a range of different methods, including the installation and maintenance of various flood resilience assets located throughout the region.

Our river management programme is funded through a mix of general and targeted rates arranged by schemes, depending on where you live.

Automatic warnings for river height River alert system

Part of our flood protection duty involves monitoring river heights and rainfall levels so that we can adequately protect our communities. We run an automatic phone call alert system that can notify you when a river reaches a certain height, helping you manage flood risk on your property. Find out more and sign up to the service here.
