An important part of managing our natural resources is ensuring our regional communities are prepared for emergency situations. At Horizons, we lead the Region's response to emergencies and work to increase community resilience through coordination of the Manawatū-Whanganui Civil Defence and Emergency Management Group.
Our Region is susceptible to a range of hazards - some present a higher risk than others. However, the most frequent emergency event we experience is flooding. As a result a significant amount of work goes into reducing the risk and impact of flooding. While we will continue our work to keep lives and livelihoods safe, the most important thing is that you Get Ready to Get Thru.
It's a good idea to have essential items on hand at home, in your car and at your workplace and talk to your family to create your own emergency plan. Test your skills as a 'Surviva' in our fun Surviva Game and see how prepared you are.
