The Manawatū-Whanganui Regional Council has received resource consent application – APP-2006012018.03 from Winstone Pulp International Limited (WPI)

WPI previously applied for a replacement consent for discharges associated with the former pulp mill operations at its Karioi site under APP-2006012018.02. During the processing of that application, the proposed future use of the site changed. WPI has now lodged a new resource consent application for the proposed future wood processing operations described below.

The application seeks resource consent for:

  • ATH-2010011593.03 – The discharge of up to 750 m³/day of condensate wastewater associated with the proposed wood processing operations. The condensate will pass through a constructed wetland before being discharged to the Whangaehu River via the existing discharge infrastructure.

  • ATH-202609463.00 – Land disturbance, together with any ancillary diversion of water and discharge of sediment, associated with construction of the wetland. The works will involve approximately 17,146 m² of land disturbance, approximately 10,447 m³ of cut and approximately 9,994 m³ of fill.

The Applicant seeks a twenty-year consent term for each activity with a ten-year lapse period.

No change to the discharge location is proposed.

The site is located at 1002 State Highway 49, Tangiwai.
